Albany Glass: Model Flint Glass Company of Albany, Indiana
Teal, Ron Sr.
The Glass Press (Antique Publications), 1997. 176 pages. ISBN: 1570800324.
Retail: $34.95
This book covers the history and patterns of the Model Flint Glass Company 1893-1899 and
Model Flint Glass Works (the company's name after being bought by National Glass) from 1899
until its closure in 1902 . Teal lists all the known patterns made at both the Albany and Findlay
plants, and includes black and white catolog pages or color photos for most of them. Mr. Teal
truly did his homework on this book, interviewing people associated with the company and
digging through the plants for shards (also pictured).
I got this book thinking it was about later glass, but it turned out to be very enjoyable anyway.
The variety of colors Model Flint made is amazing, on the order of Fenton, but within the space
of only one decade. The photos are wonderful to look at. I haven't found much of the glass in real
life, but most of it is very rare now - so this book could be your chance to find a sleeper! This
reference would be for people who collect Early American Pattern Glass and/or glass made by
the Model Flint Glass Co, and also for people who are specifically interested in glass made in
Indiana. It is very thorough and easy to use, so beginners wouldn't have any trouble with it.
